This recording was a culmination of years spent playing in a band together and many more apart.
With the exception of a recording we did on my old Fostex 4 track the evening Hurricane Bertha passed over New England, this is the first time we sat down and actually wrote together rather than bringing in our songs individually to The Gypsy Mechanics as we most often did. Bobbo booked us a couple of days at our long time friend and producer, Mike Clark’s studio in New Hampshire. The intent was to see what we could come up with. That was 3 years and change ago.
Life moves on, things happen. Couple of conversations and we decide to release it so that other folks can listen in. What I hear are 2 old friends that connected at a cool moment in time and in my humble opinion created something special.
I hear glimpses of our younger selves but with some patina on the old shine rather than a vain attempt at resurrecting some sort of glory days scenario or something equally perplexing. We just sat, picked up our guitars and wrote. So you can judge for yourselves, but I think we found some magic here. Bobbo and I always wanted to write our “Rough Mix” album and several decades later we found our peace. I hope you enjoy it.

‘I’ve been holding you inside my heart, squeezed so tight until we fell apart. Now I’m looking in my reflection, for some salvation.’ Was the only thing I wrote to bring into the session. It felt like the invitation to everything that followed.
We haven’t released music together since the 1997 album Story to Rewind by our band The Gypsy Mechanics, but for years we’ve threatened to make a joint album in the spirit of Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane’s Rough Mix.
So we booked two days at Clark Creative in Amherst, New Hampshire, and wrote and recorded Some Salvation on the spot.
It’s fun, loose, and spontaneous.
