If you're a fan of mine - you likely have most of these songs in your collection already. There's two songs on here that were never on any other album, the rest...it's kind of like a "Greatest Non-Hits." These are the songs that I talk about in my book.

Really why this exists is so that folks that are brand new to me and my music have a sort of entrance point - an album that introduces me to them and a kinda / sorta overview type of way. Is it completely retrospective? Hell no. It is a gateway album to the wild, wonderful, world of Bobbo. Yes, absolutely.

The Bobbo hates referring to himself in the third person.

Welcome in. Sit down. Take off your shoes. Wine and tea are on the table and the toast is toasting.

"Something I have noticed about this (album) in particular, it seems to come out at you from everywhere on earth, and also straddles decades with ease, but no retro rubbish here, the nostalgia feels earned, hard fought for even." ~From the outside, listening in, Netherlands

Some records are planned for months. They’re demoed, arranged, discussed and dissected until every corner is sanded smooth.

This was not one of those records.

October happened because of movement. It happened because of miles and train stations and long drives and carrying guitars across Europe and through unfamiliar cities. It happened because every now and then the road gives you a gift if you’re paying attention.

In the fall of 2022, while touring Europe, I found myself walking into rooms I had dreamed about for years. Rooms that felt less like recording studios and more like sacred spaces. Hansa in Berlin, Germany. Windmill Lane in Dublin, Ireland. Places where songs bigger than life had once floated through the air and somehow stayed behind in the walls. I walked into those rooms carrying very little: an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, an e-bow, a delay pedal and a handful of songs that had been following me around.

I was intimidated at first.

How could you not be? You can feel the history in places like that. At Hansa, the shadow of the Berlin Wall still hangs nearby and every corner seems to whisper stories. In Dublin, Windmill Lane felt like standing in the middle of a song already in progress.

But then something shifted.

The pressure disappeared and the rooms stopped feeling like museums. They became places to simply play. To listen. To let songs come to life. Michael and Arne guided me. The buildings might be mystical but it’s the people who make the magic.

No big production tricks. No endless overdubs. Just songs captured mostly as they were — strange little postcards from somewhere between homesickness and discovery. Some songs had traveled with me for a while. Some were still introducing themselves. Some belonged to me entirely. Some came from voices and writers I deeply admire. Together they somehow started speaking the same language.

And maybe that's what October became.

Not a travel record exactly. Not a folk record. Not even really a rock and roll record.

It's a document of a moment.

That feeling when seasons change. When summer quietly slips away and something cooler starts arriving around the edges. When you realize you're standing somewhere you've dreamed about being, and for just a second you stop worrying about what's next.

You just look around.

Take a breath.

And sing. Bobbo Byrnes Dec 2022

I like to paint, well, I like to spill paint on a canvas. I like watching the colours bleed into one another and become something more, colours and shades that couldn't exist on their own until brought together. SeaGreenNumber5 is a painting I did a few years ago and we recorded almost all of this album right in front of it in my living room, everyone adding their own colour, shade and texture to the music.

In the past few years I've done a lot of house concerts and there's something special about performing in a small room with a handful of people connecting that is a really different experience. No big amplifiers or wall of sound, just songs, stories and people. I wanted to make an album that sounded like me singing in your living room, like I'm part of your family.

Matt brought over his stripped down drum kit with his homemade cajon snare and one cymbal and played to the songs like he always does, simply and tastefully. My wonderful wife Tracy is always nearby with her bass, a harmony and a clever thought about how to change a single word or phrase to improve the whole and she's always right. Then I called Jeremy to add his pedal steel playing to Queen, December and Somewhere Else and there was an immediate classic country-ness that he brought out in those songs. Geo showed up with a bottle of wine, some chocolate and added her violin and viola and the songs gained a depth and melancholy that wasn't there before. Jen and Tawny lent their beautiful voices to a few songs and brought yet another layer to it. Thank you all.

In California I play shows with The Fallen Stars which is Matt and Tracy (and sometimes Matt & Geo). When I'm in New England, Gary Young and Dave Ballou back me up and call themselves Two-Fifths. In Germany Sam Barnard, Niklas Herzog and Mona Li are Die Gefalenen Sterne and Roman Sonnleitner performs with me in Austria. When Ben Riddle is around he, Tracy and I morph into Riddle & The Stars. In music, you're very lucky if you can get a couple of people to learn your songs and perform and play with you. I am exceptionally lucky to have these talented folks with me and I do not take it or them for granted. Thank you all.

My songwriting friends Chuck Roberts, Ben Riddle, Kalai King, Morgan Keating and of course Tracy have been sharing their talents with me for years and I love the music we make together. Jason Day told me he was going to challenge me to sing differently and we'd make a great album together, he was right. Thank you all.

I am so grateful for my fans. Whether we are all singing APB, sharing a fluffernutter at a festival, chatting on a radio show, eating late night falafel konig or toast or drinking wine together, it is humbling and amazing that we have found each other and connected. Thank you all.

Music for Train Stations Vol 2

Bobbo Byrnes

The follow-up to 2025's Music for Train Stations. This one feels a little slower, a little more contemplative. Still recorded on a 1964 Steinway & Sons baby grand in my local library and I embellished with a little bit of cello.

"Award winning singer songwriter Bobbo Byrnes takes an unexpected and mesmerizing turn with his latest release, "Music For Train Stations", an ambient album that transports listeners into a world of atmosphere, texture, and emotion. Departing from his signature Americana and folk rock roots, Byrnes crafts an evocative sonic experience inspired by movement, transition, and the quiet moments in between." ~Hemifrån Sweden

With "Music For Train Stations", Byrnes channels the spirit of ambient pioneers like Brian Eno, while infusing his own unique sense of storytelling through sound. Designed to accompany journeys both physical and introspective, the album blends piano and organ motifs, ethereal layers, and immersive field recordings, creating a meditative space for listeners to lose themselves in.

“This album was born from the idea of sound as a companion”, says Byrnes. “There’s something deeply poetic about the time spent in train stations, waiting, watching, reflecting. I spent a lot of time in the train stations of Europe last fall on tour, and I wanted to create music that could live in those moments, offering a sense of calm, curiosity, and motion all at once”.

The album cover is a photo he took from the Liège, Belgium, train station where Bobbo found himself stranded for several hours and the idea was born. "Music For Train Stations" is a departure in style, but not in spirit, Byrnes’ signature warmth and depth remain at the core of each track, inviting audiences into a contemplative soundscape where every note tells a story.
